August 29th - Nearly There...

I dragged my friends to the beach today in search of a picture...I ended up taking pictures of them taking pictures...

August 27th - Simply Scrabble

I think I'm addicted...

August 26th - End of Summer, End of Summer Tuesday Dancing :(

'Twas the last Tuesday evening dance practice of the summer tonight and for the third Tuesday I tried to capture some dancing (or posing, lol).

Still here - Is anyone else at this point?

Well, I have not been doing so well lately with the picture-a-day...if any of you are still with me; thank you :) I aim to be better this week at posting photos in a timely manner...

Below you will find a few that have been missing and likely will also notice that there are some missing... *makes embarrassed face*...I have no excuses other than that nothing inspired me to take a picture that day.

(they are in order, so scroll down...)

August 24th - Fall Fair Fun

Waiting to show her stuff in the cattle herding comp

Up and over! - they were so fast that more often or not they were out of the frame before I could take the picture!

Waiting...for what I do not know...

Many a tractor to be seen,

Some were bigger than others.

Having a seat and resting his feet.

A very big turkey that really didn't seem to want to pose for me. But I can be patient...(occasionally).

Cherry lemon-aid, fries, and mini doughnuts; Yum!!!

[had to take this picture as it was a good contrast to yesterday's food photo. This time, however, a run stemmed from the consumption of food instead of the consumption of food stemming from a run ;) !]

August 23 - mmm, good food!

Nothing like good food after a long run. Or in my case, nothing like good food ;) I'll let him comment on the enjoyment of good food after 20km of running, because, well, I didn't run.
(perhaps he can also explain the apparently deep conversation with the warthog...)

August 21 - Haven

This little guy was kindly let me take his picture when I got home from work. The deer love our yard for it's variety of greenery and the large hedge that makes it a good place to lie down and rest. Good thing we aren't avid gardeners.

August 18th - Wet Feet

I went to the beach today to see if there were any interesting windy things going on. As I was playing with my shutter speed settings while watching the waves crash over a log it occurred to me that I really had no reason to keep my feet dry...

p.s. I promise there are more photos coming for August 14-17th...I didn't miss all of those days!

August 16th - More from The Big Time Out

August 15th - Signs

While wandering at The Big Time Out last Friday I was amused and confused by these signs:

Although tasty tasty mini doughnuts may not be good for you, they are at least created from organic seeds...er, hmmm...

I understand the need for a 3 day pass and the ban on campfires, but no drum circles?

August 14th - Still in the Garden

August 13th - While Looking for Meteors...

...these silhouettes caught my eye; I see what looks like half a face and a drawing of a torso in the windows...maybe my eyes are just playing tricks with me though...

I liked the lines.

August 10th - Mmmm Cookies

I've been wanting cookies since seeing Sarah's yummy looking picture on August 3rd so I finally made some today :)

I love these cookies because you can add pretty much what ever you want to them and they always turn out well- in fact, the more interesting bits you add the better they become. Today they had cranberries, butterscotch and carob chips, crushed walnuts and crunchy peanut butter instead of butter.

Breakfast Bean Cookies

(approx 2 dozen cookies)

2 cups oats
1 cup flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda

¼ tsp. cinnamon
¼ tsp. salt
19 oz white kidney or navy beans, rinsed & drained

¼ cup butter or margarine softened
¾ cup packed brown sugar
1 large egg
1 tsp. vanilla

½ cup chocolate chips
½ cup raisins or dried cranberries
½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans
2 tbsp ground flaxseed (optional)

Preheat oven to 350ยบ F

Place the oats in the bowl of a food processor and pulse until they resemble coarse flour. Combine in a large bowl with flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.

Place the egg, vanilla, and beans into the food processor and pulse until well blended. Add brown sugar and butter and pulse until smooth.

Pour the bean mixture into the oat mixture and stir until almost combined. Add chocolate chips, raisins, nuts, flaxseed, and stir until blended.

Drop large spoonfuls of dough onto a greased cookie sheet and flatten.

Bake for 14-16 minutes until pale golden around the edges but still soft in the middle. Transfer to a wire rack to cool.

The 8th hour of the 8th day of the 8th month of the 8th year...

8am and the sun is just peeking over the trees and falling on the dew on my tomato plants:

Bugs don't "sit pretty" unless...

The problem with trying to photograph bugs is that they don't stay still. Their industrious little selves are so intent on being busy as bees that I suppose it doesn't occur to them to pose :( Or maybe it's self-preservation instinct that manifests itself in movement-the more you move the less time you spend in one spot and hopefully the less likely you are to be in the spot that gets stepped on (would that work or is that theory sort of like the one about running through rain...?)

I gave up on the industrious bugs this morning and photographed breakfast instead.

Thankfully, not my breakfast:

August 7th "oioioie" - Gah!

Coffee, Scrabble, and friends. What more can one ask for of an evening?

Er, maybe a set of tiles that doesn't look like this to begin with?

And some more light so I can get the friends in the photos also.
(I avoid flash like the plague...)

August 6th - Leaving it to the last minute...

I went to the beach this evening in desperation; I was hoping to find a photo. I thought perhaps a nice textured wood and rocks shot to go with my crab from yesterday, or maybe I'd just set up my coffee and book in the nice evening light and go with that.

The light on the way there suggested there was too much haze for there to be much in the way of the "golden hour" and the pretty sunset colours looked as though they wouldn't be visible from Goose spit. Instead of staying put and thinking "probably not worth it" as I usually do, I went that way anyways...

...and I was rewarded with a brilliant ball of sun slowly setting over the trees and mountains.

August 4th - Happy Birthday BC :)

*Note to self*
Photographing fireworks requires more practise - too bad we only have them once a year...

August 3rd-more from the farm

I'm always attracted to the images of the calm before (or in the eye of) the figurative storm...

It's festival weekend at Filberg park and that definitely constitutes a storm; music, food, and artisans galore and of course the crowds of visitors that go with it. I've worked at the Hands on Farm for 8 of the past 11 summers and usually go back to help out during the festival when the number of daily farm visitors increases 3-5x(sometimes more!) that of a normal busy summer saturday...

Looking at my photos just now I realized that I don't have any of the farm or the festival in the midst of the busy-ness. This is probably partly due to the fact that I'm too busy to take photos at that time, but mostly due to the fact that I really don't like trying to capture random people I don't know-I'm conscious of the fact that they might not like me taking their pictures...especially in the case of parents and kids...I really don't want to be on the 'wrong side' of a protective parent. That said, these 'calm' pictures need contrast to be effective so my plan for tomorrow is to capture the storm!

31, er 30, days of August

A picture for each day of August; except that I didn't read Sarah's challenge till today so I will only have 30 days of pictures since I did not take any yesterday...

This little piggy (either Veruca or Penelope, I'm not sure which one is which) found the contours of the a tree root just right for lounging on this morning before the madness of the Filberg Festival descended upon the Hands on Farm in Filberg Park today.
