Bugs don't "sit pretty" unless...

The problem with trying to photograph bugs is that they don't stay still. Their industrious little selves are so intent on being busy as bees that I suppose it doesn't occur to them to pose :( Or maybe it's self-preservation instinct that manifests itself in movement-the more you move the less time you spend in one spot and hopefully the less likely you are to be in the spot that gets stepped on (would that work or is that theory sort of like the one about running through rain...?)

I gave up on the industrious bugs this morning and photographed breakfast instead.

Thankfully, not my breakfast:

August 7th "oioioie" - Gah!

Coffee, Scrabble, and friends. What more can one ask for of an evening?

Er, maybe a set of tiles that doesn't look like this to begin with?

And some more light so I can get the friends in the photos also.
(I avoid flash like the plague...)

August 6th - Leaving it to the last minute...

I went to the beach this evening in desperation; I was hoping to find a photo. I thought perhaps a nice textured wood and rocks shot to go with my crab from yesterday, or maybe I'd just set up my coffee and book in the nice evening light and go with that.

The light on the way there suggested there was too much haze for there to be much in the way of the "golden hour" and the pretty sunset colours looked as though they wouldn't be visible from Goose spit. Instead of staying put and thinking "probably not worth it" as I usually do, I went that way anyways...

...and I was rewarded with a brilliant ball of sun slowly setting over the trees and mountains.

August 4th - Happy Birthday BC :)

*Note to self*
Photographing fireworks requires more practise - too bad we only have them once a year...

August 3rd-more from the farm

I'm always attracted to the images of the calm before (or in the eye of) the figurative storm...

It's festival weekend at Filberg park and that definitely constitutes a storm; music, food, and artisans galore and of course the crowds of visitors that go with it. I've worked at the Hands on Farm for 8 of the past 11 summers and usually go back to help out during the festival when the number of daily farm visitors increases 3-5x(sometimes more!) that of a normal busy summer saturday...

Looking at my photos just now I realized that I don't have any of the farm or the festival in the midst of the busy-ness. This is probably partly due to the fact that I'm too busy to take photos at that time, but mostly due to the fact that I really don't like trying to capture random people I don't know-I'm conscious of the fact that they might not like me taking their pictures...especially in the case of parents and kids...I really don't want to be on the 'wrong side' of a protective parent. That said, these 'calm' pictures need contrast to be effective so my plan for tomorrow is to capture the storm!

31, er 30, days of August

A picture for each day of August; except that I didn't read Sarah's challenge till today so I will only have 30 days of pictures since I did not take any yesterday...

This little piggy (either Veruca or Penelope, I'm not sure which one is which) found the contours of the a tree root just right for lounging on this morning before the madness of the Filberg Festival descended upon the Hands on Farm in Filberg Park today.

Salsa Caliente

What better way to amuse your feet after 5 hours of hiking than to engage them in an evening of salsa and bachata with a little tango thrown in for good measure :)

Flower Ridge Trail

Up, up, up and more up...I'm not much of a hiker, but occasionally I get the urge to climb up something. So I did. And I've got proof ;)

Yes, I'm easily amused by the reflections in sunglasses

The view from nearly the top (how do you know where one trail starts and another one stops?) of Flower Ridge trail

Ahhhhh, feet liked this very much. They aren't used to 5 hours in hiking boots.
